Fantasy Basketball Buy Low, Sell High: Week 3

Richard Jefferson, Dirk Nowitzki

We’re going back to the tried-and-true “Buy Low, Sell High” posts for Fridays. Cheers!

Buy Low:

Dirk Nowitzki

Paul Pierce

Serge Ibaka

DeMar DeRozan

Carlos Delfino

Zach Randolph, Marcus Thornton, Jason Kidd and any other productive fantasy players who are injured should be considered buy-low candidates.

Sell High:

Tim Duncan

Iman Shumpert

Kobe Bryant

Brandon Jennings

Richard Jefferson

Whats your reasoning for Shumpert being a sell high candidate?

as stated in the DimeMag.com version:

In five games this month, Shumpert is posting 13/4/4 along with 2.6 steals and 1.2 threes per game, not to mention 46 percent shooting from the field and 83 percent shooting from the charity stripe. That said, fantasy owners should remember what’s on the horizon. That approaching round mound is none other than Baron Davis, who is targeting a return at the end of January. Shumpert will retain decent value, but owners looking for more stability in the future should feel free to sell him while he’s hot.

I was recently offered a trade and I’m very skeptical to pull the trigger, but I was curious on your opinion. The kid offered me: Pierce, Billups, and Duncan for Westbrook and Amir Johnson. I love Pierce and I want to try and buy him low, but I’m nervous about acquiring 3 old men that might be worn out by playoff time for a young stud like Westbrook

You’re right to be wary. You’d be giving up a first- or second-round stud for two old guys who are productive when fully healthy, and a young big man for an old big man who’ll see limited action down the stretch. You can do better than that.
