Just because there’s a lockout doesn’t mean you can’t be improving your fantasy basketball game this summer.

Head on over time DimeMag.com to read my latest post: “5 Fantasy Basketball Mistakes You Made This Season and Lessons to Learn for Next.”

In it you’ll read about my “Portman Zone” of sorrow, along with discussions of five mistakes many fantasy owners likely made throughout 2010-11, and what to do to avoid them in the future:

1) You were too late on pickups

2) You were too quick/late to drop players

3) You failed to update your lineups

4) You didn’t pay attention to your team’s rankings in each category throughout the season

5) You made bad trades

That feeble attempt at a joke brings us to the whole point of this post: What lessons can we take from the 2011 NBA Finals for fantasy basketball purposes? Here are five that I could think of. Weekend Wonder: Kevin Martin averaged 31.5 points, four three-pointers, 5.5 rebounds, three assists, three steals and 0.5 blocks in two games over the weekend. That’s three straight games with 30+ points for Martin, who will be shedding no tears over Aaron Brooks’ departure. K-Mart has only missed two games and is averaging top-20 numbers so far this season.

Lines for Discussion:
J.J. Hickson (2/25): 9-17 FG (53%), 6-10 FT (60%), 24 Pts, 15 Reb, 1 Ast, 5 Blk, 3 TO

Deron Williams (2/26): 3-12 FG (25%), 9-12 FT (75%), 15 Pts, 5 Reb, 17 Ast, 2 Stl, 4 TO (continue reading…)

See you next year

by on Dec.23, 2010, under Other

Dear readers: I’m packed and ready to head off for a short vacation, and I won’t have ready access to this blog or my Twitter feed for the remainder of 2010. (I wonder if Melo will be traded by the time I return.)

In the meantime, remember to vote for your 2010-11 NBA Fantasy All-Stars.

I sincerely hope you all enjoy the holiday season, the new year and whatever vacation time comes along with them. Thanks for a great 2010.

I leave you with this gift:

Kobe Kissing Brian Cook

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year.

See you in 2011.
