Weekend Wonder: Elton Brand is business as usual after averaging 20 points, 10 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 2.5 steals, 2.5 blocks and 2.5 turnovers in two games over the weekend. He shot 56 percent (15-27) from the field and 91 percent (10-11) from the free throw line during that stretch and finally looks like a solid third- or fourth-round draft pick.

It’s hard to believe we’re already five weeks into this NBA season, but that’s reality of my calendar is correct. A lot has gone on in the form of injuries, waiver wire drama and lineup changes, so let’s take a deep breath and dive into this week’s fantasy preview.

Game watch:
4 games: DAL, DEN, LAC, MEM, MIL, MIN, NJ, NY, ORL, PHI, POR, SAC, SA, TOR
3 games: ATL, BOS, CHA, CLE, DET, GS, HOU, IND, LAL, MIA, OKC, PHO, UTA, WAS
2 games: CHI, NO

Waiver wire watch:

  • Jason Williams: his most recent line was solid and he should see plenty of minutes while Jameer Nelson is out
  • James Harden: he’s turning things around, though his shooting is still unreliable
  • Mike Dunleavy: nearing his return, should be treated with delicacy in real life and fantasy life (continue reading…)

Daily fantasy recap: 11.19

How's that for a turnaround? Brand had a great game last night but can he keep it up? (NBAE via Getty Images/Jesse D. Garrabrant)

Beast of the Night: Elton Brand finally turned the corner and put up 19 points, 11 boards, 2 assists, 3 steals, 6 blocks and just 1 turnover while shooting 47 percent (8-17) from the field and 75 percent (3-4) from the line. Owners who have been patient or bought low on him have to be giddy right now. He isn’t through with his struggles just yet, but things look very bright for him now.

Notable lines:
Larry Hughes – 6-14 FG (43%), 7-8 FT (88%), 3 3ptm, 22 Pts, 10 Reb, 7 Ast, 3 Stl, 1 Blk, 2 TO

Rashard Lewis – 7-16 FG (44%), 1-2 FT (50%), 2 3ptm, 17 Pts, 10 Reb, 9 Ast, 2 Stl, 1 TO

Stephen Jackson – 9-21 FG (43%), 6-8 FT (75%), 2 3ptm, 26 Pts, 5 Reb, 5 Ast, 3 Stl, 4 TO

Antawn Jamison – 12-22 FG (55%), 5-6 FT (83%), 2 3ptm, 31 Pts, 10 Reb, 2 Ast, 1 Stl, 2 TO (continue reading…)

Buy low, sell high: Fantasy Week 3

by on Nov.13, 2009, under Quick hits

West will need more than muscles to revive his fantasy value. Maybe a new coach and a caring point guard can do the trick? (NBAE via Getty Images/Bill Baptist)

Buy low:
Al Jefferson: gone for two games because of a family illness, will get rest and should be much improved by December

Andre Miller: still starting along with Steve Blake, chances for taking over solo PG duties look decent

David West: new coach, Chris Paul’s help could help boost his numbers

Amar’e Stoudemire: still getting his conditioning back, too good to remain this mediocre on a high-scoring team (continue reading…)

Beast of the Night: Danny Granger shot 50 percent (12-24) from the field and 100 percent (5-5) from the line as he put up 31 points, 2 threes, 16 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, 2 blocks and 4 turnovers. His heel is still worrisome, but he’s a fantasy stud when he’s playing.

Notable lines:
Anthony Randolph – 8-20 FG (40%), 1-2 FT (50%), 17 Pts, 13 Reb, 1 Ast, 3 Stl, 2 Blk

Channing Frye – 4-9 FG (44%), 2-2 FT (100%), 3 3ptm, 13 Pts, 6 Reb, 5 Ast, 1 Stl, 3 Blk
