Weekend Wonder: LeBron James played in two overtime games this past weekend and averaged 35 points, 11.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists, four steals, 0.5 blocks and two threes. He shot 51 percent from the field, 76 percent from the line and averaged 5.5 turnovers in those games. Slowly but surely, James has regained top-10 status this season and should have an easy time staying there.

Lines for Discussion:
Rashard Lewis (1/7): 5-11 FG (46%), 3-4 FT (75%), 3 threes, 16 Pts, 13 Reb, 6 Ast, 3 Stl, 1 Blk

Wesley Matthews (1/7): 10-18 FG (56%), 9-9 FT (100%), 7 threes, 36 Pts, 5 Reb, 1 Ast, 1 Stl, 1 TO (continue reading…)

LBJ's early season struggles are behind him now. (NBA.com)

Happy New Year, readers. I’m back from a wonderful vacation and ready to tackle 2011. I hope you are, too.

Beast of the Night: LeBron James finished with 38 points, nine rebounds, five assists, one steal and two threes last night against the Bobcats. He shot 58 percent (15-26) from the field, 100 percent (6-6) from the free-throw line and had three turnovers. All is well in the kingdom of LeBron, who has lifted his fantasy value from the slump it was in earlier this season.

Lines for Discussion:
Stephen Jackson: 7-15 FG (47%), 7-8 FT (88%), 1 three, 22 Pts, 2 Reb, 5 Ast, 2 Stl, 5 TO

Stephen Curry: 5-13 FG (39%), 2-2 FT (100%), 3 threes, 15 Pts, 6 Reb, 5 Ast, 2 Stl, 5 TO (continue reading…)

Eric Gordon

Beast of the Night: Eric Gordon blasted the Timberwolves with 36 points, 1 rebound, 6 assists, 5 steals and 5 threes. He shot 61 percent (14-23) from the field, 60 percent (3-5) from the free-throw line and had just one turnover. Gordon’s previous three games were a bit mild, but he’s still having a stellar season, improving his numbers in every category except for three-pointers made and turnovers.

Lines for Discussion:
Daniel Gibson: 8-15 FG (53%), 6-6 FT (100%), 7 threes, 29 Pts, 4 Reb, 4 Ast, 2 Stl, 1 TO

Kirk Hinrich: 7-14 FG (50%), 4-4 FT (100%), 18 Pts, 6 Reb, 11 Ast, 2 Stl, 3 TO (continue reading…)

by on Dec.20, 2010, under Trades

Nick Young

Though he wasn't a part of the mega-deal over the weekend, Young sure has a lot to smile about now. (Flickr/Keith Allison)

The Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns and Washington Wizards made some big waves over the weekend. The three teams took part in a trade that sent Gilbert Arenas, Jason Richardson, Hedo Turkoglu and Earl Clark to the Magic; Rashard Lewis to the Wizards; and Vince Carter, Mickael Pietrus, Marcin Gortat (along with a 2011 first-round draft pick and cash) to the Suns.

Head on over to DimeMag.com to read my full take on the deal. Here are my quick takes on how this plays out: (continue reading…)

2010-11 Fantasy week 9 preview

by on Dec.19, 2010, under Quick hits

Hedo Turkoglu

Guess who's back in Orlando? (Flickr/Keith Allison)

For Next Week:
4 games: CHI, ORL, SA
3 games: ATL, CLE, DEN, GS, LAC, MIA, MIL, MIN, NO, OKC, PHI, PHO, WAS
2 games: BOS, CHA, DAL, DET, HOU, IND, LAL, MEM, NJ, NY, POR, SAC, UTA
1 game: TOR

Waiver-wire watch:

  • Brandon Bass: at worst, he’ll be in a timeshare at PF with Hedo Turkoglu; at best, the PF spot
  • Nick Young: his 30-point game on Saturday shows his value with Gilbert Arenas out of town, but he’s still mostly points and threes
  • Marcin Gortat: he’ll get more minutes than he did in Orlando, which makes him worth consideration in most leagues
  • Reggie Williams: his time is short, but so long as Curry is out, Williams is worth owning
  • Leandro Barbosa: he’s scored in double digits in five straight games (continue reading…)
