Fantasy Analysis: 2011 NBA Free Agents (updated Dec. 14)

Tyson Chandler

It’s been a crazy week for the NBA. David Stern’s c-blocking aside, fantasy owners have had a lot to pay attention to — maybe too much. I know for me, my real-life work (you know, the stuff that pays the bills and gets in the way of this penurious passion) has gotten in the way of keeping up with all the chaos, but I finally got a chance to sit down and process the madness a bit.

Though trade rumors are all fine and dandy, we have a long list of free-agent signings to examine. Below is a quick rundown of the signings so far, broken down by team:

Atlanta Hawks:

  • Tracy McGrady (PG/SG): one year, veteran’s minimum
    • If (and probably when) Jamal Crawford leaves town, T-Mac could have inconsistent value here and there. Don’t expect him to get the 25-30 minutes he notched for a few months last season with the Pistons.
  • Vladimir Radmanovic (SF/PF): details undisclosed
    • You know the deal with Radmanovic: If he somehow gets minutes, he’ll hit some threes and get nearly a steal a game, but that’s a big “if.” He’s worthless for the time being. (continue reading…)

LeBron James

It's a good thing "clutchness" isn't a fantasy category. (NBA.com)

Beast of the Night: LeBron James posted 29 points, six rebounds, four assists and two blocks last night in an epic fail against the Magic. He shot 69 percent (11-16) from the field, 100 percent (7-7) from the line and had two turnovers. Most of this line came in the first three quarters of the game – so, there’s that.

Lines for Discussion:
Jason Richardson: 9-14 FG (64%), 6 threes, 24 Pts, 3 Reb, 2 Ast, 2 TO

Andrei Kirilenko: 6-11 FG (55%), 0-1 FT (0%), 12 Pts, 3 Reb, 5 Ast, 2 Stl, 3 Blk, 5 TO (continue reading…)

Fantasy trade analysis: Arenas, Richardson, Turkoglu to Orlando

Nick Young

Though he wasn't a part of the mega-deal over the weekend, Young sure has a lot to smile about now. (Flickr/Keith Allison)

The Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns and Washington Wizards made some big waves over the weekend. The three teams took part in a trade that sent Gilbert Arenas, Jason Richardson, Hedo Turkoglu and Earl Clark to the Magic; Rashard Lewis to the Wizards; and Vince Carter, Mickael Pietrus, Marcin Gortat (along with a 2011 first-round draft pick and cash) to the Suns.

Head on over to DimeMag.com to read my full take on the deal. Here are my quick takes on how this plays out: (continue reading…)
