Fantasy Basketball Player Rankings: Top 150 for the 2012-13 NBA Season

by on Aug.17, 2012, under Rankings

The Olympics are over, which means we won’t be seeing stuff like this again anytime soon (maybe ever):

Yep, that’s NBA champion LeBron James with a wicked bounce pass to Kevin Durant. Not only is that a sick play — it’s also a smooth transition into the point of this post, because that GIF shows the top two players in the land of fantasy basketball.

The NBA offseason is in a lull, but fantasy basketball owners should never be. But if you’ve allowed yourself to kick back and hop out of the stream of NBA news and moves for a bit, who can blame you? So for those who have to reacquaint themselves with the league, and for those who are already up to speed, I present to you an early iteration of the top 150 fantasy basketball players for the upcoming 2012-13 NBA season. (The rankings assume nine categories and a head-to-head format.)

Here’s a quick peek at the top 25 players: (continue reading…)

Thunder vs. Heat in the 2012 NBA Finals: A Sign of the Times (Poll)

It’s finally here, the way we wanted it and the way we expected it at the start of this strange NBA season: The Oklahoma City Thunder will lock horns with the Miami Heat in the 2012 NBA Finals, a matchup that features seven of the top 50 fantasy basketball players in the 2011-12 NBA season (LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Dwyane Wade, Serge Ibaka, Russell Westbrook, James Harden and Chris Bosh).

The poll that’s been up on the home page of this site since the beginning of the season shows that 35 percent of you thought the Heat would win this season’s championship, while 14 percent thought the Thunder would. Granted, perceptions and realities have changed since then: the Thunder look more sure-footed and ready than they did earlier in the season, while LeBron is in full-on Hulk mode.

What strikes me about the matchup, among many other facets that have already been mentioned by others, is that this is a clash of the organic and the inorganic — the natural vs. the unnatural, the honest way vs. the shortcut. (continue reading…)

Daily Fantasy Basketball Recap: 4.9.12 (Weekend Review)

by on Apr.09, 2012, under Quick hits

Kevin Durant

Yep, KD is No. 1. (AP Photo/Sue Ogrocki)

Weekend Wonder: Kevin Durant averaged 33.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.0 steal, 2.0 blocks and 3.5 threes in two games over the weekend. He shot 58 percent from the field and 89 percent from the free-throw line, and averaged 2.5 turnovers per game in that stretch. He continues to hold onto that crown as the most valuable fantasy basketball player of the 2011-12 NBA season.

Lines for Discussion:
Raymond Felton (4/6): 12-18 FG (67%), 1-1 FT (100%), 5 threes, 30 Pts, 7 Reb, 6 Ast, 2 Stl, 2 TO: through the first five games of April, Felton is averaging 13.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, 8.8 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.8 threes

Goran Dragic (4/6): 8-19 FG (42%), 7-8 FT (88%), 3 threes, 28 Pts, 4 Reb, 11 Ast, 3 Stl, 3 TO; in 17 games as a starter for the Rockets this season, Dragic is averaging 18.1 points, 3.5 boards, 8.8 assist, 1.9 steals and 1.9 threes, while shooting 52 percent from the field and 82 percent from the free-throw line

Eric Gordon (4/7): 3-12 FG (25%), 3-5 FT (60%), 1 three, 10 Pts, 3 Reb, 1 Ast, 1 Stl, 2 TO; Gordon’s fantasy value next season is a bit of a question mark, but it’d be a surprise to see him drop below the third round (continue reading…)

Daily Fantasy Basketball Recap: 3.22.12

by on Mar.22, 2012, under Quick hits

Kevin Durant

Beast of the Night: Kevin Durant posted 32 points, nine rebounds, five assists, two steals, a block and a three-pointer last night. He shot 56 percent (10-18) from the field and 100 percent (11-11) from the free-throw line, and turned the ball over four times. This was a nice bounce-back game after notching a mediocre 18/6/2 (along with six turnovers) the night before.

Lines for Discussion:
Kyrie Irving: 10-19 FG (53%) 6-7 FT (86%), 3 threes, 29 Pts, 9 Reb, 9 Ast, 3 Stl, 7 TO; he’s averaging top 30 numbers so far this season

Jordan Crawford: 7-13 FG (54%), 8-10 FT (80%), 1 three, 23 Pts, 4 Reb, 1 Ast, 3 Stl, 2 TO; he’ll be a solid source of points, threes and steals going forward, but his field-goal percentage will remain poor

Jarrett Jack: 6-9 FG (67%), 4-4 FT (100%), 1 three, 17 Pts, 10 Reb, 11 Ast; this was a pretty flawless line from Jack, who’s finally rounded back into form (continue reading…)

Daily Fantasy Basketball Recap: 3.2.12

by on Mar.02, 2012, under Quick hits

LeBron James

Beast of the Night: LeBron James posted a sick line to the tune of 38 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, five steals, one block and two three-pointers. He shot 59 percent (13-22) from the field, 83 percent (10-12) from the free-throw line and had zero turnovers (in 41 minutes of play). Sure, the absence of Chris Bosh helped, but these sorts of nights are expected from the No. 1 fantasy stud in the land.

Lines for Discussion:
Kevin Durant: 12-21 FG (57%), 9-9 FT (100%), 5 threes, 38 Pts, 8 Reb, 3 Ast, 5 TO; on most other nights, this would’ve been worthy of “Best of the Night” honors

Nikola Pekovic: 6-12 FG (50%), 2-2 FT (100%), 14 Pts, 9 Reb, 1 Blk, 2 TO; Pekovic has cooled off lately, but he’ll bounce back sooner than later

Mo Williams: 7-14 FG (50%), 4 threes, 18 Pts, 1 Reb, 5 Ast, 3 Stl, 1 TO; Williams is getting a steady diet of minutes but has failed to take full advantage of them, mostly because of his struggles from the field (continue reading…)
