Daily Fantasy Basketball Recap: 1.12.12
by Jason on Jan.12, 2012, under Quick hits
Beast of the Night: Kevin Durant finished his big night with 29 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, one steal, four blocks and three three-pointers. He shot 65 percent (11-17) from the field, 67 percent (4-6) from the free-throw line and had three turnovers. This was his third consecutive double-double. After a “slow” start, Durant is back on track, notching more rebounds, assist and blocks than he did last season, while shooting an improved 49 percent (up from 46 percent last season) from the floor.
Lines for Discussion:
Danny Granger: 9-16 FG (56%), 3-3 FT (100%), 3 threes, 24 Pts, 5 Reb, 2 Ast, 2 TO; his points, rebounds, assists, three-pointers made, field-goal percentage and free-throw percentage are all down from their marks last season
DeMarcus Cousins: 6-11 FG (55%), 9-11 FT (82%), 21 Pts, 19 Reb, 1 Stl, 1 Blk, 5 TO; his assists-to-turnovers ratio (0.6:3.3) is laughable, but he’s averaging 15.5 points, 11.0 boards, 1.2 steals and 1.7 blocks, good for top 60 value
Tyreke Evans: 7-22 FG (32%), 14-14 FT (100%), 1 three, 29 Pts, 7 Reb, 3 Ast, 2 Stl, 1 TO; weak FG%, 3PTM and fewer assists per game than last season hamper his fantasy appeal (continue reading…)

The “buy, sell, hold” ratings should be approximately interpreted as follows:
- Buy: the player is a solid trade target because his value is underappreciated yet reliable, or because he’s in a slump
- Hold: if you own the player, try to hold onto him, either because he’ll maintain solid value or to see how his value stabilizes before dealing him away; if you don’t own the player, wait until his stock drops a bit or until his uncertain value is clearer before trying to get him in a trade
- Sell: don’t believe the player’s recent production and sell high if you own him
With that, here’s the stock watch for Week 2: (continue reading…)
Daily Fantasy Basketball Recap: 12.26.11
by Jason on Dec.26, 2011, under Quick hits
Beast of the Night: Carmelo Anthony kicked off the 2011-12 NBA season in a big way, finishing Christmas Day with 37 points, eight rebounds, three assists, two steals, a block and four threes. He shot 59 percent (10-17) from the floor, hit 87 percent (13-15) of his free throws and had five turnovers. Melo clearly thrives in that Knicks offense and will prove himself worthy of a first-round pick this season.
Lines for Discussion:
Rajon Rondo: 11-19 FG (58%), 9-12 FT (75%), 31 Pts, 5 Reb, 13 Ast, 5 Stl, 5 TO; showed plenty of aggression and didn’t hesitate to take open jumpers
Tyson Chandler: 1-2 FG (50%), 5-8 FT (63%), 7 Pts, 3 Reb, 2 Ast, 6 Blk; six blocks is nice, but just three rebounds against that Celtics frontcourt?
Amar’e Stoudemire: 8-11 FG (73%), 3-4 FT (75%), 2 threes, 21 Pts, 6 Reb, 2 Ast, 2 Stl, 2 Blk, 1 TO; keep those threes comin’ (continue reading…)

The 2011-12 NBA season is finally within reach, ready to be ripped open by the childishly eager fingers of ravenous fans. For fantasy basketball owners, the joy comes with a bit of business. Once they cut through the excitement of seeing the first tip-off of the season, they’ll immediately wonder how their draft picks will pay off, what clues they can pick up in the early going and which players sitting in the free-agent pool might be worth a pickup.
While making heavy-handed conclusions after just the first day of games isn’t recommended, it doesn’t hurt to have a list of things to watch and hope for during the first official day of this unique NBA season. Below is a Christmas Day wish list for fantasy basketball owners who have players participating in the first day’s games. (continue reading…)
Updated Fantasy Basketball Rankings: Top 150
by Jason on Nov.30, 2011, under Rankings
Nuclear winters, like Kris and Kim, are so yesterday.
If you’re a fellow NBA junkie, the past several days have been filled with suspicious joy — a happiness imbued with a faint fear that this delicate dream of a 2011-12 NBA season could collapse at any given moment. But as we read news outlets churn out rumors about Dwight Howard, Chris Paul and Rajon Rondo as if they had them stored up for a time such as this, it becomes easier to let down your guard and embrace the season to be.
As a fantasy basketball blogger, I’ll admit that the coming season fills me with 99 percent cheer and 1 percent fear — cheer because I get to participate in and write about the game I love again; and fear because of the rust I’ll have to work off while knowing the window for educated preseason analysis will only be open sometime after Dec. 9 and before Dec. 25.
So, it’s with a curious mix of joy, fear and disbelief that I present to you my updated rankings of the top 150 fantasy basketball players for the 2011-12 NBA season.
