- The Orlando Magic are clearly motivated to retool their roster for a strong run at the title this season. First they traded for Vince Carter (and an underrated Ryan Anderson), matched a competing offer for Marcin Gortat, the team’s key backup at the center position, and signed bruising power forward Brandon Bass. Now the Magic appear to be close to signing forward Matt Barnes away from the Phoenix Suns and point guard C.J. Watson away from the Golden State Warriors.
If both of these signings go through, the Magic will be a deep, well-rounded team, which means that both Barnes and Watson will likely see fewer minutes per game than they did last year. This doesn’t mean they’ll lose most of their fantasy value – just some of it. Barnes is the more relevant fantasy player here, so keep him on your radar.
- The Los Angeles Clippers received Sebastian Telfair, Craig Smith and Mark Madsen in exchange for Quentin Richardson in a trade on Monday. Telfair won’t see much playing time unless Baron Davis gets hurt (which is very likely), while Smith could make for a nice backup to Blake Griffin. He’s shown that he is a capable scorer and rebounder if given enough minutes. Madsen remains irrelevant.Richardson, in his second trade stop this summer after being sent to L.A. from the New York Knicks, will likely be submerged under the young talent that the Timberwolves will probably want to develop, but he should have a good shot at maintaining stats close to those he put up on the Knicks last season.
