The 2011-12 NBA season is finally within reach, ready to be ripped open by the childishly eager fingers of ravenous fans. For fantasy basketball owners, the joy comes with a bit of business. Once they cut through the excitement of seeing the first tip-off of the season, they’ll immediately wonder how their draft picks will pay off, what clues they can pick up in the early going and which players sitting in the free-agent pool might be worth a pickup.

While making heavy-handed conclusions after just the first day of games isn’t recommended, it doesn’t hurt to have a list of things to watch and hope for during the first official day of this unique NBA season. Below is a Christmas Day wish list for fantasy basketball owners who have players participating in the first day’s games. (continue reading…)

Daily Fantasy Diagnosis: 3.24.11

Dorell Wright

Wright has become an overnight celebrity. Cue Twista. (NBA.com)

[Read the full post at DimeMag.com]

Beast of the Night: Dorell Wright put up 32 points, five rebounds, six assists, three steals, one block and three three-pointers made. He shot 67 percent (14-21) from the field, 75 percent (3-4) from the free-throw line and had one turnover. While Wright’s field-goal percentage is usually his Achilles heel, it was clearly no problem last night. His surge into fantasy superstardom is astounding. Owners shouldn’t expect to see him last too long on draft boards next fall.

Lines for Discussion:
Kris Humphries: 6-14 FG (43%), 6-6 FT (100%), 18 Pts, 23 Reb, 4 Ast, 2 Stl, 2 Blk, 3 TO

Danny Granger: 11-19 FG (58%), 9-11 FT (82%), 2 threes, 33 Pts, 5 Reb, 3 Ast, 2 Stl, 1 Blk, 1 TO (continue reading…)

Marcus Thornton

Beast of the Night: Marcus Thornton scored a career-high 42 points to go along with three rebounds, one assist, four steals and four three-pointers made. He shot 65 percent (13-20) from the field, 86 percent (12-14) from the free-throw line and had no turnovers. With Tyreke Evans still struggling to return from a bout with plantar fasciitis, it looks like Thornton’s hot fantasy value is safe for the time being.

Lines for Discussion:
Serge Ibaka: 5-10 FG (50%), 10 Pts, 4 Reb, 8 Blk

Deron Williams: 4-11 FG (36%), 4-6 FT (67%), 4 threes, 16 Pts, 6 Reb, 9 Ast, 3 Stl, 3 TO (continue reading…)

Ellis hit a career-high seven three-pointers and played all 53 minutes of an overtime victory over the Magic on Friday night. He has been a top-15 stud all season long and has held up well despite playing heavy minutes once again.
