Daily Fantasy Basketball Recap: 1.2.12 (Weekend Review)

Weekend Wonder: Derrick Rose averaged 22.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 11.0 assists, 1.5 steals, a block and 1.5 threes in two games over the weekend. He shot 50 percent from the field, 95 percent from the free-throw line and turned the ball over three times per game. These averages include his somewhat mediocre line from Sunday in a 40-point blowout victory over the Grizzlies. After a rocky start, Rose is calming the nerves of his insecure owners.

Lines for Discussion:
Ricky Rubio (12/30): 4-7 FG (57%), 2-3 FT (67%), 2 threes, 12 Pts, 6 Reb, 12 Ast, 1 Stl, 5 TO; he’s worth starting for now

Carlos Delfino (12/30): 6-11 FG (55%), 3 threes, 15 Pts, 6 Reb, 2 Ast, 1 Stl; he’s finally back and will be a solid source of threes

Spencer Hawes (12/30): 7-9 FG (78%), 1-1 FT (100%), 15 Pts, 13 Reb, 2 Ast, 1 Stl, 3 Blk, 3 TO; I’m almost a believer (continue reading…)

Fantasy Basketball Stock Watch 2011-12: Week 1

by on Dec.30, 2011, under Quick hits

Boris Diaw

This will be a new weekly series of posts that differs from the “Buy Low, Sell High” posts from last season. The “buy, sell, hold” ratings should be approximately interpreted as follows:

  • Buy: the player is a solid trade target because his value is underappreciated yet reliable, or because he’s in a slump
  • Hold: if you own the player, try to hold onto him, either because he’ll maintain solid value or to see how his value stabilizes before dealing him away; if you don’t own the player, wait until his stock drops a bit or until his uncertain value is clearer before trying to get him in a trade
  • Sell: don’t believe the player’s recent production and sell high if you own him

With that, here’s the stock watch for Week 1: (continue reading…)

2010-11 Fantasy week 24 preview

by on Apr.03, 2011, under Quick hits

Jared Dudley

Game watch:
4 games: BOS, CHA, CHI, CLE, DEN, DET, LAC, LAL, MIL, NJ, NY, OKC, PHO, SAC, TOR, WAS
3 games: ATL, DAL, GS, HOU, IND, MEM, MIA, MIN, NO, ORL, PHI, POR, SA, UTA

Waiver-wire watch:

  • Jared Dudley: he’s started his last four games and has averaged 18.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists, three steals, 0.8 blocks and 0.8 threes in that stretch
  • Tony Allen: he won’t hit many threes, but Allen is doing a lot in just about every other column, especially steals
  • Jerryd Bayless: he had a great line in his start Saturday without Jose Calderon; if Calderon misses more time with his bum hammy, Bayless will finish the season as a stud
  • Ed Davis: he’s racked up three double-doubles in his last four games and is worth a look if you need big-man stats, especially while Andrea Bargnani is out (continue reading…)

2010-11 Fantasy week 9 preview

by on Dec.19, 2010, under Quick hits

Hedo Turkoglu

Guess who's back in Orlando? (Flickr/Keith Allison)

For Next Week:
4 games: CHI, ORL, SA
3 games: ATL, CLE, DEN, GS, LAC, MIA, MIL, MIN, NO, OKC, PHI, PHO, WAS
2 games: BOS, CHA, DAL, DET, HOU, IND, LAL, MEM, NJ, NY, POR, SAC, UTA
1 game: TOR

Waiver-wire watch:

  • Brandon Bass: at worst, he’ll be in a timeshare at PF with Hedo Turkoglu; at best, the PF spot
  • Nick Young: his 30-point game on Saturday shows his value with Gilbert Arenas out of town, but he’s still mostly points and threes
  • Marcin Gortat: he’ll get more minutes than he did in Orlando, which makes him worth consideration in most leagues
  • Reggie Williams: his time is short, but so long as Curry is out, Williams is worth owning
  • Leandro Barbosa: he’s scored in double digits in five straight games (continue reading…)

2010-11 Fantasy week 8 preview

Jodie Meeks

Game watch:
4 games: ATL, HOU, IND, LAL, MEM, MIA, MIN, NJ, NO, PHI, POR, SAC, TOR
3 games: BOS, CHA, CHI, CLE, DAL, DEN, DET, GS, LAC, MIL, NY, OKC, PHO, SA, UTA, WAS
2 games: ORL

Waiver-wire watch:

  • DeJuan Blair: trending upward, double-dipped in two straight games
  • Omri Casspi: flavor of the week in Sacramento, hot now but will cool off soon
  • Matt Bonner: worth owning in deep leagues if you desperately need threes
  • Luke Ridnour: he’s playing well and though he’ll be in a timeshare soon, he’s still worth a look
  • Nick Young: if you like streaks, give Young a look
  • Nazr Mohammed: decent source of blocks and boards in deep leagues (continue reading…)
