Fantasy Analysis: 2011 NBA Free Agents (updated Dec. 14)

Tyson Chandler

It’s been a crazy week for the NBA. David Stern’s c-blocking aside, fantasy owners have had a lot to pay attention to — maybe too much. I know for me, my real-life work (you know, the stuff that pays the bills and gets in the way of this penurious passion) has gotten in the way of keeping up with all the chaos, but I finally got a chance to sit down and process the madness a bit.

Though trade rumors are all fine and dandy, we have a long list of free-agent signings to examine. Below is a quick rundown of the signings so far, broken down by team:

Atlanta Hawks:

  • Tracy McGrady (PG/SG): one year, veteran’s minimum
    • If (and probably when) Jamal Crawford leaves town, T-Mac could have inconsistent value here and there. Don’t expect him to get the 25-30 minutes he notched for a few months last season with the Pistons.
  • Vladimir Radmanovic (SF/PF): details undisclosed
    • You know the deal with Radmanovic: If he somehow gets minutes, he’ll hit some threes and get nearly a steal a game, but that’s a big “if.” He’s worthless for the time being. (continue reading…)

Fantasy Basketball: Back to School for a Season That May Not Happen

DeMarcus Cousins

DeMarcus looks ready to head back to school. Are you? (NBA/Getty Images)

We’re on the cusp of Labor Day weekend, which means students who haven’t already started their new school year are now seeing their summer vacation quickly slipping away. If there’s any solace for students wincing at the thought of going back to school, it’s that they can rest assured that the 2011-12 school year is actually happening. While that may not be much of a comforting thought in and of itself, the start of a school year means graduation is closer than it was yesterday. Imagine if an entire school year were put on hold: While visions of an extended “summer break” are certainly enchanting, it would mean that students would commence their education a year older than they should be, and that graduating and heading off to that coveted next stage of life would be put on a maddening hold. Daily Fantasy Diagnosis: 3.29.11

by on Mar.29, 2011, under Quick hits

Thaddeus Young

Didn't expect to ever see him here, huh? (NBA.com)

[Read the full post at DimeMag.com]

Beast of the Night: Thaddeus Young posted 21 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and four blocks in just 24:39 of burn last night. He shot 63 percent (10-16) from the field, 50 percent (1-2) from the free-throw line and had just one turnover. While Young hasn’t exactly matched his production from last season, he’s still managed to improve his shooting percentages from last season’s marks, and has held top-90 value throughout the season. It would really help his value next season if he hit more threes.

Lines for Discussion:
Rajon Rondo: 9-13 FG (69%), 4-4 FT (100%), 22 Pts, 4 Reb, 8 Ast, 1 TO

Gilbert Arenas: 2-11 FG (18%), 4-6 FT (67%), 1 three, 9 Pts, 10 Reb, 5 Ast, 3 Stl, 5 TO (continue reading…)

Kevin Love

Valentine's Day is coming up. Insert joke here. (NBA.com)

[Read the full post at DimeMag.com]

Beast of the Night: Kevin Love finished with 24 points, 17 rebounds, seven assists and a three last night against the Rockets.  He shot 50 percent (6-12) from the field, 100 percent (11-11) from the line and had two turnovers. Love remains a top-three fantasy beast this season and there’s no reason to expect him to slow down.

Lines for Discussion:
Ryan Anderson: 5-11 FG (46%), 7-8 FT (88%), 4 threes, 21 Pts, 5 Reb, 1 Ast, 3 Blk, 4 TO

Devin Harris: 6-13 FG (46%), 2 threes, 14 Pts, 10 Ast, 1 Stl (continue reading…)
